Lynn E. Henning Chase, 81, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on July 28, 2026. Born July 18, 1945, Lynn was the youngest of six children born to Raymond and Mildred (Connor) Peery of Lincoln, Nebraska. She graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School and completed two years of junior college.
Lynn built a steady and admirable working life, completing more than 20 years of accounting work for Jacob Services and Square D.
In the early 1970s, as a single mother of four young children, Lynn met and married Larry Henning. Together they continued to make their home in Lincoln, where she devoted herself to her family.
Lynn’s love was often expressed through what she did. She made family life an active, shared experience—fishing and camping together at Wagon Train, Pawnee, and Yankton, among other parks, and taking Sunday drives into the country for plum picking to make plum jam. She also was very good at crocheting. Lynn made countless gifts for her family and friends.
With an appreciation for family history, Lynn pursued genealogy with patience and purpose, assembling numerous books not only of her own lineage but of others as well. Some of her books can be found at the Franklin County Historical Society in Franklin, Nebraska, and the Nebraska Historical Society in Lincoln. Her research often took her to cemeteries across Nebraska and surrounding areas, and when she found the grave she sought, she would dust off and tidy up around the headstone—an unassuming act of respect that reflected her selflessness.
Lynn also found deep joy in her grandchildren, and she especially enjoyed attending the activities in which they were involved, showing up with the steady presence that made her support unmistakable. They all knew they could count on her for encouragement, praise and a love-filled hug.
Lynn is survived by her sister, Lelonne Smallbear. She was preceded in death by her husband Larry Henning, great-grandson Joseph Lee Fleming and her siblings LaJean Fontaine, Wallace, Delbert and Roger Peery. She is survived by her four children Robert, Daniel, Carol and Rhonda Chase. Grandchildren Brandon and Amanda Chase, Morgan (Devon) Nelson, Amber Richardson, Ashley O'Brien, Taneesha, Bethany and Breanna Chase as well as 13 great-grandchildren.
