On Tuesday August 3rd, 2021, Marilyn Maxine Russell (Johnson), age 81, passed away peacefully in her sleep. Marilyn was born October 7th, 1939, to Nathan and Isabel Johnson, in York, NE. Marilyn was the oldest of four children; Mariette, Michael, and Suzanne. In 1957, she graduated from York High School in York, NE. Marilyn met Marvin Russell, and they were married in 1960 and spent 51 years together, until Marvin’s death in 2011. They had four children, Sherrill Miller (George Miller), Christopher Russell, Andrew Russell (Shari Russell), and David Russell; five grandchildren, Kimberly Broman, Caelen Shaw, Ben Miller, Brennen Russell, and Noah Russell. Marilyn, being a military (Marine) spouse, traveled the country with her family. When Marvin retired from the Marines in 1975, the family moved back to Lincoln, NE. Over the years Marilyn worked for the United Way of Lincoln and Lancaster County, Neighbor Works of Lincoln, and East Ridge Presbyterian Church in Lincoln. Marilyn was an avid reader, loved to sing, sow, and spend time with her family. She loved house plants and moved many of them over the years as she and the family moved. She taught herself Swedish. She was always wanting to help anyone in need, and also was a great listener to anyone who needed someone to talk to.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Russell, her parents, brother Michael, and son Christopher.
Funeral Service will be Thursday, August 19, 2021, 10:00am, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. 6800 S. 14th St, Lincoln, NE. Inurnment will follow at Lincoln memorial Cemetery. 6700 S. 14th St, Lincoln, NE. If you are unable to attend the service in person, you can join the family virtually by following the livestream link below at the start of the service.
