He graduated from Fairbury High School in 1950 and was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. He worked for AT&T/Nokia until 1996, after being a proud employee for 44 ½ years.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Carol Carstens; children Debra Parker, Michael (Judy) Carstens, and Lori Carstens; stepchildren Janet (Al) Behrends and Steven Mielke; sister Dellene Miller-Zimmer; grandchildren: Andrea (Gary) Koberstein, Ryan (Jaye) Parker, Sara Carstens, Sean (Danielle) Parker, Matthew (Christina) Carstens, Ashlee Carstens, Katelyn (Anthony) Diers, Brandon Mielke, Mikaela Carstens. He was a proud grandpa to 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, Liam (his little buddy). He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, September 6 with family from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 7 at 11:00 AM followed by a luncheon. A burial will follow at 2:30 PM at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.
