Mildred Lorraine (Taake) Wallin, “Millie” passed peacefully on April 24, 2019, surrounded by her family. Born April 10, 1920 in Tilden, Nebraska to Otto and Anna Taake, she was the youngest of five children. Mildred taught K-12 in a one-room school house until she met and married her husband, Ralph
Wallin, a pilot in the Navy, on August 16, 1941. As a military family, they moved often during Ralph’s 24-year career. Upon his retirement from the Navy, Ralph and Mildred, with their five children, made Lincoln their home. They worked together to build and grow a successful property investment business, Wallin Enterprises, Inc.
Mildred was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Even though she lived to be 99, she never really “grew old”. She remained joyful, fun loving, living in the moment, never complained. Whenever we met one of her friends, business associates, or someone new, they would often say, “oh, you’re one of Mildred’s children. Well, we just love your mother!” We never tired of hearing this. We were blessed and proud to have her as our mother. She was an eternal optimist, always lifting up the spirits of everyone around her. Her generosity, kindness and compassion brought comfort to everyone. She had a great sense of humor and quick wit. Mildred was independent and fiercely self-reliant, and was very proud of that.
Mildred is survived by her five children, daughter, Linda (Jim) Vogt of Ottumwa, Iowa; daughter, Shirley (Harvey) Novak of Lincoln; son, Clark (Andrea) Wallin of Lincoln; daughter, Carolyn Suzanne Wallin of Del Rey Oaks, California and daughter; Kathryn (Greg) Adkisson of Purchase, New York; 13 grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Ralph and grandson, Jeff Novak.
The family wishes to express special gratitude to Southlake Village Rehabilitation & Care Center for the incredible warmth, love and care shown to Millie and our family. Millie loved it there, and for all of us, Southlake is the ideal model for Care Centers.
A private family service will be held. Condolences:lincolnfh.com
