

Opal L. Litsey, 98, of Lincoln, passed away May 5, 2014. She was born October 5, 1915 in Douglas, Nebraska to Edwin and Emma Watermeier. She married George Litsey on July 20, 1940. To this union, a son (Larry) and daughter (Nancy) were born. Opal loved gardening, baking and spending time with her family and friends. When younger she worked in the bakeries of Miller & Paine’s, Kresge’s, W.T. Grant’s and First National Bank. Later she worked for Kelly Services and was nominated and won the Employee of the Year. She demonstrated for HyVee stores until she was 86 and had to retire because of her eyes. She thoroughly enjoyed all of these jobs and the many friends that she made along the way. She lived at Tabitha’s Martin House for the last year and a half, where she was truly loved by the staff and residents.
Opal is survived by son, Larry Litsey; daughter, Nancy (Bill) Astor; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Ardyth Wolfe and LaVerne Hanneman; sister-in-law, Rosie Watermeier; many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, George; parents; brothers, Delmar “Pinky” and Alvin Watermeier; and daughter-in-law, Renee Litsey.
A Celebration of her life will be Friday, May 9, 2014 at 11 AM, Grace Lutheran Church, 2225 Washington St, Lincoln. Viewing will be an hour prior at the church. Memorials in care of Grace Lutheran Church. Condolences may be left online at www.lincolnfh.com.
