Oscar Edwin Blomstedt, born June 5, 1927, went to be with Jesus in the early hours of September 23, 2026. He lived a long and fulfilling life and was the last of his generation. His love for Jesus was the driving force behind all he did. Born in Dannebrog, Nebraska to Carl and Agnes (Blomquist) Blomstedt, one of 11 children. After high school, he was drafted at age 23 into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After basic training, he left by train on Thanksgiving Day 1950 to Ft Belvoir, Virginia. Upon discharge in 1952, he was able to enroll at the University of Nebraska in agriculture.
In college, he was part of the foundational group of students who formally petitioned and established the Gamma chapter of Alpha Gamma Sigma fraternity at UNL in 1953. He graduated with a Bachelors in Science in General Agriculture in 1956. Ten years later, in 1966, after exploring a few different avenues, he entered graduate college in Engineering. He graduated in 1969 with a Masters in Science in Sanitary Engineering. He began working that same year in the Department of Environmental Quality, where he stayed for 34 years until he retired at the age of 76.
Aside from his work, his family and his faith were the two things he was most proud of. His daughter Heidi was born in 1975. Since her very young age, the two connected on their love of music, and it became the language they spoke with each other. He, along with her mother Jo, supported Heidi through piano lessons, while encouraging her to grow her talent. He also spent time teaching her about Jesus and instilling a great sense of faith within her. From Camp every summer to missions trips to worshipping to eventually becoming a worship leader in Colorado years later, he walked with her through it all. Every visit would involve some Ukulele, some piano, and always a harmonica and singing.
He had great pride for his country and was supportive of that in many ways through the years. He was also proud of his Swedish heritage and worked diligently for many years extensively researching and compiling genealogy for both paternal and maternal sides of his family.
He married Marcia Wehrli on December 23, 1995. He and Marcia were involved in various Bible studies, Sunday schools, Awana groups, before and after they met each other. They spent any free time learning about the Bible, or telling someone else about it. They volunteered and served in different ministries and gave rides to children and neighbors and friends. They never knew a stranger, and always had someone they were praying for. He eagerly awaited their reunion since her passing in 2017.
He reunites with various loved ones - family, friends, neighbors, etc. He is survived by his daughter and family, step children, many nieces, nephews, and even more grands and greats.
Heidi invites any who knew him to join us for a service Tuesday, the 29th of September at 10am.

He supported many non profit organizations through the years. His desire was for donations to be made directly to the following in his memory or to the memorial fund to be split amongst them: Child Evangelism Fellowship, Wycliffe Bible Translators, Far East Broadcasting, Act for America, and Alliance Defending Freedom. He also supported Heidi in her work at House of Neighborly Service in Loveland, Colorado.
