Preston was born in Minden, Nebraska on May 14, 1950 to Preston and Charlotte (Lung) LaPointe. Preston is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Shirley LaPointe; children, Troy LaPointe, Heather (Steve) Painter; Aunt Gloria; two brothers, Tom LaPointe, Charley LaPointe; grandchildren, Trenton Hunt, Steven Hunt, Melissa Bauer, Preston LaPointe, Zachary LaPointe, Breanna Painter, MacKenzie Painter; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preston lost his battle to a rare cancer but fought a good fight until the very end. He worked for General Dynamics for 36 years as a Quality Control Inspector. During his adventurous life he received a certificate in Micro Computer applications technology, earned a brown belt in karate, had a private pilot license, built several computers and loved all types of electronics and gadgets. He was a very talented guitar player and loved to sing. Preston also worked on the Seward Police force and was a Lancaster County Deputy Sheriff. He loved the Lord, family, church, friends, dogs, and his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He will be greatly missed.
A visitation for Preston will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68512. A celebration of life will be 10:00 am Monday, January 27, 2025 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home.
