Ramon "Ray" K. Ayars

Ramon “Ray” Kay Ayars, born April 16th, 1932, passed away peacefully on May 30th, 2022 at the age of 90. Ray was born in North Platte, Nebraska to Floyd and Nellie “Nell” Ayars. He was the youngest of four: Eugene, Dee and Don. Their family moved to Lincoln during Ray’s high school years and he graduated from Lincoln High School. He attended the University of Nebraska - Lincoln and was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity, and a member of the R.O.T.C. Before graduating from UNL, Ray was drafted to the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War.

In 1956, Ray met Alice L. Leif and on June 1st, 1957, they were married. Alice and Ray had four children: twin sons: Mike & Pat, a daughter Lori and a son Doug. Ray started as a bookkeeper for Ready-Mixed Concrete and worked his way up to become the General Manager. He retired in 1995. Ray and his family spent a great deal of time at their cabin on Lake Leba in Fremont, Nebraska, which they still enjoy to this day. He enjoyed Husker football, having season tickets since 1962. He also enjoyed traveling, fishing, playing cards, and hanging out with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Nell, his wife, Alice, his siblings, and his son Pat. He leaves behind his son Mike Ayars and wife Cristy, daughter Lori Luedtke and husband Bill, son Doug Ayars and wife JoAnne; nine grandchildren: Kate (David) Funk, Caroline (Kaj) Larsen, Stephanie Ayars, Gregory (Sally) Ayars, Sam Ayars, Stacy (Matt) Richmond, Scott Luedtke, Lauren Ayars, and Michael Ayars; seven great grandchildren: Carter, Clayton and Garrett Funk, Miles and Reese Larsen and Alice and Eden Richmond.

Visitation will be held at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska on Thursday June 2nd from 5-8 pm. The funeral will be on Friday June 3rd at 10 am. Memorials may be given to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or Salvation Army Small Fry Basketball Program. lincolnfh.com
