Born on April 3, 1967, in Lincoln, Nebraska, Randi was the daughter of Gerald and Carol (Stephens) Mathis and was raised in Atkinson, Nebraska. She graduated from West Holt High School in 1985 and later attended Lincoln School of Commerce, earning a degree in accounting in 1987.
Randi dedicated much of her life to industrial fumigation and pest control, retiring in November 2022 after a successful career with Industrial Fumigations. Her professional life was marked by hard work, dedication, and a genuine care for others.
In 1993, Randi met the love of her life, Gary Hromas, at Joe's Bar in Lincoln—because who doesn't find their soulmate in a dive bar, right? They married on June 11, 1996, and while Randi didn't have children of her own, she got the privilege of helping raise Gary's two kids, Steven and Jessica. Randi became their biggest cheerleader, attending every sporting event and school activity like it was the Super Bowl.
Family meant everything to Randi. Whether it was cheering on her nieces and nephews at their activities or attending rodeos, she was always the first one to show up and the last to leave. Randi’s love for her family was as vast as her collection of casino souvenirs. If there was a road trip to be had or a slot machine to try, Randi was there, living life one jackpot at a time.
Randi had a deep love for travel, especially to casinos, and she cherished the opportunity to explore new places. Her passion for life, her love for her family, and her kind, generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In 2019, Randi was fortunate to meet her half-siblings, Stephanie Szalawiga, Kerri Loos, Lisa Mastin, and Jeff Hansen. The bond they formed over the years was a source of joy, love, and support, and they will always hold a special place in her heart. Randi cherished the moments spent with them and the deeper relationships they built together.
Diagnosed with cancer in March 2020, Randi fought it with the strength and determination of a woman who refused to let anything keep her from her next adventure. Despite the odds, she crossed Hawaii off her bucket list, saying "Aloha" to paradise before she said goodbye.
Randi had a way of making every day brighter and more fun. She will be missed, but we know she’s probably up there trying to teach a few angels how to hit the jackpot.
Randi was a beloved mother and grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband, Gary Hromas; her stepchildren, Steven (Amy) Hromas and Jessica Hromas; grandchildren JT and Emma; her parents, Gerald and Carol Mathis; her sisters, Stacy (Joe) Derrick and Rhonda (Joe) Lichtenberg; her brothers, Jason (Candy) Mathis and Marty (Erin) Mathis; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A memorial service to celebrate Randi’s incredible life will be held at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home on 12/27/24 at 2pm. Visitation on 12/26/24 from 5pm to 7pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The American Cancer Society in her memory.
Randi’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her, and her legacy of kindness, family devotion, and resilience will never be forgotten.
Arrangements entrusted to Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Lincoln, Nebraska.
