

Randy Ben Coil of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away peacefully on January 17th, 2026 at the age of 78, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday January 23rd, 2026 at Lincoln Memorial Chapel in Lincoln, Nebraska, with Pastor David Kersting officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to UNMC of Omaha, Nebraska, or his loving wife of 45 years, Gail Coil.
Randy was born on March 3rd, 1947 in Lincoln, Nebraska to James (Jim) and Phyllis Coil. Randy joined his family as the fourth child with three older siblings, Julia, Jim, and Cindy. As a young child, he could often be found playing cowboys and Indians with him being the cowboy of course, and enjoying time outside riding bikes. Randy grew up in Lincoln where he developed lifelong roots and appreciation for the community that shaped him. As he got older, he found a love for specific sports, enjoying the company and companionship of his beloved dogs, and everything Harley Davidson. Randy was a man of strong character, work ethic, and incredible devotion to his family.
Randy graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School in 1965. Following graduation, Randy entered the work force and began a career in the trucking industry. Little did Randy know, this is how he would meet the love of his life. While making a delivery to a NAPA auto parts in 1978, Randy met his loving wife Gail, and the rest was history. Their bond was enduring, which blossomed into a marriage that became the essence of his life. Randy and Gail were married October 12, 1980 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Together, they built their home in Lincoln where they raised their 4 children, Janeen, Brent, Chad, and Andy.
Randy’s dedication to Gail and their family was evident in every choice he made, every laugh shared, and every moment spent together. Randy was a very personable man who thrived on building connections, sharing stories, and making everyone he met feel valued. He was also known as a very witty individual by those closest to him. Gail often being the brunt of his quick and comical remarks, but nonetheless always making everyone smile or laugh.
Randy will be remembered for his unwavering love, loyalty to his family, and his pride in his family that him and his wife built together over 4 decades. His gracious and positive attitude even towards the end was such a gift to his family and was beyond commendable. His greatest joys in life were spending time with his children, grandchildren, and the great-grandchildren that he was blessed with over the years. His legacy will continue to live on through his family and the countless memories he created with those fortunate enough to know him.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents James (Jim) and Phyllis Coil, older sister Julia (Coil) Ballou, brother in law Bruce Ballou, sister Cindy (Coil) Laden, brother in law Francis Laden, grandson Tyler P. Coil, son in law Michael Johnson, paternal and maternal grandparents, as well as many aunts and uncles.
Randy is survived by his beloved wife Gail Coil of Lincoln, Nebraska, daughter Janeen Johnson (Shane Drews) of Lincoln, Nebraska, sons Brent Coil of David City, Nebraska, Chad Coil (Laura Cain) of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Andrew (Stacey) Watson of Wilber, Nebraska; Grandchildren Paul Johnson, Taylor Johnson, Marleigh Coil, Austin Coil, Ashley Coil, Allison Coil (Quinton Behrens), Makayla Coil (Dustin Cain), Shelby Coil (Tyler Helms), Atley Watson (Nate Rogers), Morgan Watson, and Claire Watson; As well as many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the amazing caregivers at CHI Hospice in Lincoln, Nebraska for the loving and respectful care of Randy. The family would also like to extend thanks to Lee and Robin, Kandi Kaye Kline-Broom, Rosemary Junkard, Jim and Gloria Coil, and Gary and Geraldine Roberts who all helped support them in various ways during such a difficult time.
