

Dick was born to Albert P. Nelson and Florence Z. Nelson In Lincoln on November 3, 1936. He graduated from Northeast Lincoln High School. He spent his working years as a dedicated pip insulator.
In 1963, Dick married Mary Harper in Iowa. In 1966, they lovingly adopted their daughter Tina, who brought great joy to their lives.
Dick was a devoted member of Northwest Church of Christ in Lincoln, where he faithfully served in many ways over the years. On Sunday mornings, he could often be found helping wherever needed. He volunteered with the NW Clothing Ministry and FoodNet, participated in home Bible studies and generously gave his time and skills by providing maintenance work the church and windows for many years. Dick especially loved singing and treasured the fellowship he found within his church family.
Dick enjoyed a number of hobbies that reflected his fun-loving nature. He was an enthusiastic collector of many things, including Happy Meal toys, cookie jars and Husker memorabilia. In his younger years, he was an avid golfer. He also loved playing bingo and shuffleboard, competing in a league and participating in tournaments for many years, where he formed many lasting friendships.
Dick will be remembered for his steady faith, servant's heart and the simple joys he shared with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert P. Nelson and Florence Z. Nelson, and his wife, Mary Nelson. He is survived by daughter, Tina.
Dick's life was a quiet testament to faith, service and community, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
