Rimma was born on August 23, 1942, in Baku, Azerbaijan, to her parents, Akopov Arshavir Arutyunovich (father) and Akopova Yelena Amayakovna (mother). She grew up with her sister, Ayrna Papyants, and brother, Artom Akopov.
Rimma graduated from Medical School in the former Soviet Union, in the city of Pyatigorsk, with a degree in Dentistry. She was a Doctor of Dentistry, and later transitioned to Dermatology. Rimma loved to read and write poetry for special occasions. She also loved to play piano and Narde (backgammon) for hours at a time. In her spare time, Rimma found joy in traveling.
She is survived by her daughters, Karina (Gregory) Michaelson, Ruzanna Gansvind (James) Keyes; grandchildren, Jemma (Jonathan) Estrella, Misha Gansvind, Yana Gansvind, Victoria Gansvind, Leon Gansvind; great-grandchildren, Joslyn Martin, and Camila Estrella. Rimma was preceded in death by her father, mother, sister, and brother.
A visitation for Rimma will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68512. A funeral service will occur Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home.
