Bob Glenn, 81, of Lincoln, passed away September 26, 2023. Bob was born on March 5, 1942 in Mason City, IA to Presley and Dorothy (Cassidy) Glenn. The second of twelve children, Bob attended Blessed Sacrament school and graduated from Lincoln Pius X High school in 1960.
Bob worked for the local gas utility company in Lincoln for over 38 years, working in both the construction and service departments. It was the latter position where he made his mark, as his good looks, respectful manners, cheerful disposition, and quick wit were a big hit with many customers. Nowhere is this better demonstrated than his being twice nominated and winning the Channel 10/11 Sunshine Award for outstanding community service during the 1980s. He retired from Aquila Gas in 2000.
While Bob excelled at work, it was in his personal life with family and friends where his gregarious and charismatic nature would have the most profound impact. “Robbo” as he was affectionately called by his friends and family, was a natural leader with a keen intellect, great sense of humor, and most of all, a huge heart. His place in the birth order saw him wearing many hats in the wider Glenn family over the years, and he loyally and lovingly embraced the roles of son, nephew, big brother, father, uncle, and cousin equally well.
The same qualities that made him a family cornerstone led to Bob developing many strong and enduring friendships throughout his life. He often remarked that he was blessed to have many more than 6 brothers. It is not a stretch to say that everyone who ever met and got to know him has a “Robbo story”, and these stories are always accompanied with a smile. His generous spirit meant that his door was always open and there was always a place at his table. His steady presence and sage advice will be sorely missed by many.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother Michael Glenn, sisters Mary (Glenn) Kennedy, Anne (Glenn) Hamill, and Dorothy “Dottie” (Glenn) Davis, brother-in-law Ken Sieckmeyer, and sister-in-law Linda Glenn.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Janeane (Coufal) Glenn; son Robert (wife Greta) Glenn; daughter Kimberly (husband Roger) Swanson; brothers Pat Glenn, Joe Glenn (wife Michelle), John Glenn (wife Rita), Jim Glenn, and Thomas Glenn; sisters Jan (Glenn) Muldoon (husband Alan) and Cathy (Glenn) Sieckmeyer; brothers in-law John Coufal (wife Maureen), David Coufal, Jim Kennedy (wife Kate), and Al Davis; and sister-in-law Joy (Shalla) Glenn; 2 grandsons; Camden Glenn and Aidan Glenn; and many, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
