Roger was born in Lincoln to Edward and Merna Meyer and was raised in Panama, Nebraska.
Growing up he had five sisters. Roger graduated from Norris High School in 1973, this is where he met his high school sweetheart, Connie. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past July. Roger was a family-oriented and kind-hearted father to his two children. He was also a hands on and wonderful grandfather to his three grandchildren. Roger had many extended family members who he enjoyed spending time with.
Roger worked for Ace Hardware and the United States Post Office where he retired in 2017. He had many hobbies which included being an avid golfer and bike rider, you could usually find him outside. Roger was also a faithful blood donor for the Lincoln Community Blood Bank. Roger and Connie loved to travel to national parks and explore what Nebraska has to offer. He loved to attend local sporting and musical events. He attended Southern Heights Presbyterian Church where he was an active member and loved by his church community. Roger had many friends, was an all-around kind soul, and will be missed by many.
Roger is survived by his wife Connie (Tickner), his children Jennifer Fynbu and Kyle Meyer, his grandchildren Nicholas, Alec and Emma Fynbu. Additional survivors include his sisters; Sandy (Randy) Bowen, Karen (Bob) Scott, Angie Meyer, and Sherry (Doug Pope) Furnas, sister in-law Bonnie (Tim) Schoonveld, brothers in-law; David (Cheryl) Tickner, Dean (Beth) Dumler, nieces; Randolyn LaFerney, Lisa (Eddie) Broadwater, Marsha (Kyle) Nelson, Tracy Scott, Erika (Steve) Kane, Heather Furnas, Cami (Justin) Wells, nephews; Todd Scott, Dan (Brandee) Weber, Joel (Kathie) Schoonveld, Ryan (Alison) Tickner, Kevin (Cynthie) Dumler. He is also survived by many great grand nieces and nephews and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Edward and Merna Meyer, father and mother in-law; Merle and Betty Tickner, sister Bobbi Meyer, brother in-law Gale Furnas, sister in-law Beverly Dumler, niece Kris Dumler-Howard, nephews; Russell Scott, Adam Furnas, and Craig Schoonveld.
Memorials will be donated to Lincoln Community Blood Bank and Southern Heights Presbyterian Church.
A funeral service is planned for Saturday, March 23rd at 10:30 am, with a visitation beginning at 9:30 am, and a luncheon following. The service will be at Southern Heights Presbyterian Church, located at 5750 S. 40th St. Lincoln, Nebraska 68516.
