Ron joined the Air Force when he graduated high school in 1957. He was sent to Lincoln where he met Glenda. He was then stationed at Sondrestrom Greenland Air Base as a firefighter. Upon his return to Lincoln, he and Glenda were married on March 13th 1960.
After being discharged in 1961, Ron went to work for Glenda’s father, working on the construction of Interstate 80. In those days, he set line in front of the cement pavers and was on the crew that historically paved a mile in a day. Following his time in construction, he took a job at Goodyear in 1967. Over the course of his 38 year career, he spent time as a hose trimmer and later a janitor, which he greatly enjoyed.
Ron could often be found tinkering with something in the garage or watching his Oklahoma Sooners. He enjoyed taking things apart and fixing his garage sale treasures. He loved his fishing adventures with Rick, especially their annual trips to Canada, the Ogallala canal, and the lake house. He shared frequent trips to the Dollar Store with Stacy just to look around. He thoroughly enjoyed entertaining his granddaughters and great grandkids with trips to the school playground, playing ball and riding bikes.
Ron is survived by wife, Glenda; sister, Rhonda Young; son, Rick (Shelly) Self; daughter, Stacy Self; granddaughters, Courtney (Dan) Adler, Caitlin Self, Callie (Ian) Wright, and Camryn Self; great grandchildren, Parker, Noah, and Owen Adler and Alton and Islay Wright; and great nieces Riley and Acelynn Cowdin.
