

Roy Franklin Rohrer, 84, of Lincoln, went to Heaven on August 14, 2014. He was born on November 3, 1929 in Hagerstown, MD to Robert and Helen (Willet) Rohrer. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church on April 12, 1936. Roy grew up on the family farm and was affectionately nicknamed “Tub.” When he was 17 he went with his Father to enlist in the US Navy in November of 1946 in Baltimore, MD and was called to active duty on January 10, 1947. It was later determined that he qualified for the WWII Victory medal and Good Conduct medal. Roy’s assignments included: Naval Air Station, Rhode Island, USS Randolph CV-15, Naval receiving station, Oakland, CA, USS Boxer CV-21, Naval Security Station, 6801 Nebraska Ave. Washington, DC, Charlestown, MA, USS Timmerman, DD-828, NAS, Brunswick, ME, Fasron, 108 VP-10. He also had assignments to NAS’s in Moffett, CA. Lemoore CA, Jacksonville, FL and Patuxent River, MD where he was honorably discharged on November 19, 1968. While in route to his assignment to the USS Boxer in Oakland, Ca, in 1949, he met a 15 year old girl traveling to Vallejo, CA with her Grandmother, as Roy got off the California Zephyr Train, the Grandmother gave him the tag off the Granddaughters suitcase with her name and address on it. Roy began to write to her 3 years later. In 1951 he went to visit her in Lincoln, NE and proposed to her not long after. Roy and Marilyn (Lippold) Rohrer were married on July 4th 1952 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hagerstown, MD. They celebrated 62 years of marriage on July 4th, 2014. Roy learned to be an Electrician and worked the trade throughout his life at GSA and Goodyear. He was a very active volunteer. He fixed TV’s in Brunswick, ME, Played Santa Claus for Children at The Naval Air Station in Patuxent River, MD. Leader in the Boy Scouts of America. He installed Flagpoles and Flags for people that desired them. Volunteered for the 1976 VA Parade and won “Best” in the parade. Participated in the Seward 4th of July parade, for many years, celebrating their anniversary and driving their convertible. He (enthusiastically) volunteered for his wife’s projects, especially the Northeast High School 1952 Class Reunion. Roy attended Southeast Community College and UNL studying business and law. Roy was Director of Navy Retirees Activities Office Naval Reserve Center, Lincoln, NE. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Assoc. Branch 145, VFW, American Legion and DAV. Although being from Maryland, Roy was a Husker fan. He also loved his family, Bowling, playing cards, teaching the grandchildren how to repair their cars and do home repairs. He enjoyed watching the grandchildren play baseball, softball and going to their bowling tournaments. Survivors include: Wife Marilyn, Daughters, Sharilyn (Gary) Foster, Lisa (Troy) Bundy. Son, Douglas (Sheri) Rohrer. Grandchildren, Cory and Kyle Foster. Jonathan, David and Amanda Rohrer. Luke, Logan and Abbie Bundy. Great-Granddaughter, Mariah Rohrer. Brother, Phillip Rohrer. Sister-in-law, Hazel (Martin) Rohrer. Brother-in-law, George (Eilleen) Lippold. Many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by: Parents. Brothers: Paul and Robert. Sisters, Mary (Rohrer) Burger, Helen (Ike Rohrer) Hartman and Kathryn (Rohrer) Baumgardner.
