

Sarah Jeanne Honnor, age 93, of Fountain Hills, Arizona (formerly of Lincoln) peacefully passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 in Mesa, Arizona. She was born October 10, 1930 to Charles and Louise (Kimberly) Williams in Columbus, GA where she lived growing up.
At a dance in Fort Benning, GA, Sarah met the love of her life, Wilbur Honnor (from Lincoln, NE) where he was stationed. They had a whirlwind courtship of three weeks. He then transferred to Fort Carson with them sharing correspondences back and forth for several months. Wilbur returned to Georgia and they were married in Columbus, Georgia at the Williams family church on September 25, 1952. They came back to Nebraska to live and raise their family. Sarah and Wilbur were together just a few months short of 59 years before Wilbur passed away in 2011.
Sarah spent several years as a homemaker raising her and Wilbur's four children. In 1971, Sarah returned to the workforce in Admissions at the Crete Municipal Hospital. In 1977, she went to work at the Nebraska Department of Health where she remained until her retirement in 1993. She and Wilbur traveled many times to Colorado, Arizona, and West Virginia to see their children and grandchildren. They also traveled to several other parts of the country. In 1996, they moved permanently to Arizona.
Sarah is survived by her children, daughters Carol (Ron) Hoffman of Fountain Hills, AZ, Cheryl (Dennis) Melichar of Longmont, CO, and sons, C. Duane (Tammy) Honnor of Sprague, NE and Doug Honnor of Marlinton, WV; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Shirley Honnor, of Lincoln, NE; along with several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death were in husband, Wilbur; her parents; brother, Charles; father and mother-in-law, Herman and Fern Honnor; sisters and brother-in-laws, Ruby Williams, Viola and Lynn Egger, George Northrop, Bernice and L.D. (Buddy) Robinson, and Wayne Honnor (Wilbur's twin brother).
There will be a memorial service at the Mausoleum chapel at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery on Monday, September 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow with the venue announced at the conclusion of the service.
