Shirley L. Wenzel

Shirley L. Wenzel, age 83, of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away on February 17, 2026. She was born on October 5, 1942, to Charlie Cordon and Susanna Rock. Shirley grew up with her brother and sister, Patricia and Dennis. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School, later becoming a member at St. John’s Catholic Church. On April 15, 1961, she married Leslie Joe Wenzel and to this union they were blessed with four children: Scott, Danny, Kelli, and Sam.

Over the years Shirley had a few jobs, working as a nurse aid at Madonna, at Valentino’s, in childcare and in the school cafeteria. Shirley loved puzzles, crossword puzzles were her favorite. Her love of caring for babies and little children led her to go into childcare. She loved dogs and watching Gunsmoke.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie; her parents; sister, Patricia Hinkle; stepfather Everett Morgan; her in-laws Leslie J. Wenzel and Iva McBride.

She is survived by her children: Scott Wenzel, Danny Wenzel, Kelli Wenzel and Sam Wenzel; grandson Bradley Wenzel, and her brother Dennis Morgan.

A visitation will take place on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, from 5-7 PM with a Rosary beginning at 7 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th, St., Lincoln, NE 68512. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 10:30 AM at St. John’s Catholic Church, 7601 Vine St., Lincoln, NE 68505.
