Tim was born to Charles and Catherine (Craig) Butts of Chester, Nebraska. He spent most of his life in Lincoln, graduating from University High in 1961. At Clinton Elementary School, Tim met the love of his life, Bettie (Bauer), who remained by his side until the end of his days.
Tim enlisted into the Nuclear Submarine Services of the United States Navy in 1962. He served as a First-Class Petty Officer through 1968 when he was Honorably Discharged.
Tim and Bettie were married in Lincoln on December 10, 1966, and moved to Boston, Massachusetts where Tim was stationed. Following his discharge from the service, they returned to Lincoln to settle down and begin the rest of their lives. Tim and Bettie were blessed with their daughter, Brenda, in June of 1969. Tim was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 434 and worked in the HVAC industry.
Tim was an avid golfer and spent the early years of his retirement helping maintain his “home course” of Ashland Golf Club, where he and his wife have been long time members. When he was not on the golf course, you could find him grilling or smoking meat on his deck, watching Husker Volleyball, traveling when he was able, and always listening to jazz music.
Tim is survived by wife Bettie; Brenda and Bill Norton of Omaha; Catie and Derek Niedermeyer of Cook and their daughters Ansley, Adelynn, and Avery; Megan and Jonathon Orchard of Omaha; and brothers Steve and Wanda Butts of Omaha and Dennis and Denise Butts of Heber City, Utah. Tim is also survived by sister-in-law Jackie Noel of Texas; brother-in-law Bill and Tamara Bauer of Las Vegas; and nephews and nieces. Tim was preceded in death by parents Charles and Catherine Butts, and his step-mother Vi Hamilton Butts.
If you wish to memorialize Tim’s life with a financial gift, please make it to Tabitha Journey House in Lincoln, Nebraska, in honor of the care and support provided to Tim and his family in the final stages of his life.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held on March 6, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at Forest Lake Clubhouse, 6834 Summerset Court, Lincoln, NE. Please do not send plants or flowers to the celebration, or to the family.
