Wally grew up in London, England. When it came time to choose a career, he became a welder, which took him first to South Africa, where he worked for Otis Elevators, and later to Finland, where he worked at the shipyards.
In Finland Wally played darts for the British embassy. It was during a game against the American embassy that Wally met his wife of 36 years, Linda. The meeting marked the beginning of a life filled with travel, adventure, and shared experiences. Wally and Linda eventually retired in Lincoln, Nebraska, but retirement did not mean slowing down. They continued to travel, explore, and make the most of life together.
Wally was always adept at making friends, and having a laugh. After Linda’s passing, Wally spent his final years at The Knolls retirement community, where his stories, experiences, and adventures captivated fellow residents and staff. (Or they may have just enjoyed listening to his accent.) He brought with him a lifetime of memories and a wealth of experiences to share. During his time at The Knolls, he also found companionship with Dotty Smedra, with whom he shared the last three years of his life.
Wally was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda, and his nephew, Royston. He is survived by his children, Lisa (Josh) and Andrew; his grandson, Quentin; his brothers, Roy, Colin, and Ian, and their wives, Chris, Jackie, and Margaret; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Linda; eight nieces and nephews; and ten great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on October 20, 2026, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68512. Memorials are in the care of the family for future designation.
