Zina Lora Foudray, 98, of South Bend, NE went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 5, 2020, while at the home of her Son, Samuel Foudray in Phoenix, AZ. She was born October 30, 1921 in Hays County Nebraska to Samuel Marion Laird and Lora (Ward) Laird.
Zina was the middle child of five siblings, Roy, Gertrude, Shirley and Hugh Laird. She was raised on a ranch in the sand hills where she rode a horse to school and went on a cattle drive when she was 11 years old. She graduated from Hay Center High School in 1939 with a teaching diploma. She taught in a one room schoolhouse in Western Nebraska for 1 year before she met and fell in love with Earnest Leroy Foudray. They were married in Ogallala in 1941 and moved to Lincoln in 1945, where they raised their three children. In 1955 she went to work at Smith Dorsey Laboratory, which later Became Novartis, where she became a member of the “25 Year Club” and retired after 35 years.
In 1961 Zina and Earnie purchased property on a lake near South Bend, NE that would eventually become their permanent home and the glue of their family. Zina was proud to have been baptized at the age of 50 with three of her grandchildren at Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Lincoln. Zina loved to write poetry, sew, quilt and will always be remembered for her sense of humor.
Zina is survived by her sister, Shirley Venhaus of McMinnville, Oregon; daughter, Bonnie (Dave) Vodehnal of South Bend, NE; Son, Samuel (Barbara) Foudray of Phoenix, AZ; 15 Grandchildren; 30 Great-Grandchildren; 7 Great-Great-Grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her Husband, Earnest Foudray; Daughter, Terri Nygren; Brothers, Roy and Hugh Laird; Sister, Gertrude Newell; Grandson, Mike McGuire; and Great-Grandson Seth Potts.
