Dulia Emogene - St. Hilaire, affectionately known as Mama D. Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, cherished member of her family and church. Dulia passed peacefully on September 25, 2026, at the age of 85, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Born on March 23, 1941 in Morrisseau, L’Azile, Dulia was the daughter of Gyptien Emogene and Imene Emogene. She was raised in Port-Au-Prince, where she learned the values of family, hard work, faith, perseverance, and generosity that would guide her throughout her life.
Before beginning her journey to the United States, Dulia built a meaningful life in Haiti. She was known for being the matriarch of the family. She was a source of strength, wisdom, love, guidance, and the person her family turned to when they needed comfort, advice, or simply a place to feel at home.
In Haiti, she worked as a dress designer, creating beautiful dresses for a variety of occasions. She was a talented seamstress whose creativity and attention to detail were reflected in every piece she made. Dulia’s gift for sewing was not only a profession, but also a beautiful expression of her creativity and passion.
Beyond her work, she was a woman who cared deeply for her family. Dulia played an important role in the lives of her younger siblings, helping to nurture, guide, and raise them. Her love, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to her family were a true reflection of who she was: selfless, dependable, and always willing to be there for the people she loved. She was a source of strength and support, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of those she helped care for.
In 1965, during a visit to Haiti, Jacques St. Hilaire was visiting a friend, when he saw Dulia for the first time. Their meeting would mark the beginning of a love story that would span decades. Though he was already living in the United States, he remained committed to building a future with Dulia. Jacques took the necessary steps to support Dulia, bringing her to the United States in 1969. Together they would begin their journey of life and on April 26,1970, they would join together in matrimony at Holy Spirit Church.
After marriage, she became a mother to Lisa Sheila St. Hilaire and Nadine Tania St. Hilaire. As a mother she instilled her hopes, values, traditions, and strength that had shaped her in Haiti. She worked hard to create opportunities for herself and her family while staying deeply connected to her Haitian roots. Together her, Jacques, and their daughters enjoyed traveling the world enjoying the fruits of their labor.
Her daughters will remember her for her faith, love of family and unconditional love. She taught them the value of prayer, family, friendship, education and living your dreams. She showed them what it meant to be a leader, independent, empowered, strong willed, and what it means to be steadfast.
Her love did not stop with her children. She was also a beloved grandmother to India Williams, Sydney Williams, Paris Williams, and a cherished great-grandmother to Carter, London and Milan. Her presence in their lives created memories and traditions that will continue to be carried forward for generations.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Jacques St. Hilaire. Her daughters Lisa and Nadine, grandchildren, great grandchild and her siblings: sister - Augusta Emogene, brothers – Karmuller Emogene, Leonel Emogene, and Dieujuste Emogene.
From her beginnings in Haiti to the life that Dulia and Jacques built in the United States, Dulia created a legacy that extends far beyond her years. Although her physical presence will be deeply missed, Dulia's legacy will live on through the family that she nurtured, the lives she touched, and the values she passed down.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that the love she gave so freely will continue through every generation that follows.
May she rest peacefully, forever loved, forever remembered, and forever a part of us.
