Eduardo was born on February 16, 1957, to Gabriel and Maria Teresa Perera. He grew up in Havana, Cuba before the family came to the United States on a Freedom Flight at the age of 10. For several decades after, he was a long time resident of Elizabeth, NJ before he enjoyed his dream retirement in South Florida.
In his professional life, Eddie was a paramedic for over 30 years, serving various hospitals across the state of New Jersey, including UMDNJ from which he ultimately retired from. Eddie had a passion for taking care of others, and among his coworkers, he was known not only for his humor and memorable expressions, but for also being a strong teacher and exemplary medic to work alongside. Along with being a lead medic for his unit, he was honored to serve as part of the paramedic staff in the detail for several historical figures, including Pope John Paul II, President Clinton and President George Bush.
Above all else, Eddie was a devoted husband to his deceased wife, Mary Lynn Perera for almost 20 years, and a loving father to his daughter, Jillian Gonzalez, who will always remember him for his love, bursts of energy and instilling his sense of adventure in her from a young age. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Vincent and Monica Perera, his son-in-law, Joel Gonzalez, his grandpup, Cash Gonzalez (who he had to have an update on every single day), and niece and nephew Kristin and Michael Perera.
A visitation will be held Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Krowicki McCracken Funeral Home, 2124 East Saint George Ave, Linden, NJ 07036.
