Francisco Mejia was born on 11/7/1923 in Los Naranjales (just outside Baní, Dominican Republic) and was called home to rest with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the 20th of March 2024. He is survived by his loving wife, Luz Mejia and his beloved daughters, sons, grandchildren, great grandchildren and even a great great grandchild who will miss his wisdom, humor and joy.
Francisco was a loving and generous man, known for his cooking, his timeliness and his great stories. As a child, Francisco developed a love for reading, learning and history that he passed on to all those who loved him. Born under a dictatorship in the Dominican Republic, Francisco valued freedom and democracy, although he much preferred to not have to argue over it. As a young boy, he learned about love, loss and family and always shared the lessons hard won. He often shared that his many years should serve as guidance to not only himself, and so if you were smart and kind enough to give him some of your time, he would reward you with the lessons he could readily see you needed to learn but never ever made you feel bad about.
Francisco was a loving father and a patient man - although he often shared that he had to learn to be so through trial and error, not nature or chance.
Francisco will live on in the heart of his friends, family and children, who will cook his favorite empanada recipe, or his Caldo Gallego, or his Dulce de Habas and think of him fondly.
Francisco was beloved, revered, admired, and will be missed dearly until we are blessed to see him again in shared eternal peace.
As a final gift, before his departure from this earth surrounded by many people who loved him, Francisco shared his advice for a happy life. Be kind. Be generous. Be responsible. Be patient. Believe people when they show you who they are and always live your life in a way that allows you to walk with your head held high.
May his soul rest in peace,
Amen.
Visitation for Francisco will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Krowicki McCracken Funeral Home, 2124 East Saint George Ave, Linden, NJ 07036.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a funeral on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, 9:00 am at the funeral home. Funeral mass at St. Anthony's Church, Elizabeth, 10:00 am.
