With the heaviest of hearts, we announce the passing of George H. Haines, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. After fighting a long battle with Parkinson’s disease, George passed away peacefully, at his home, on March 13, 2024.
Born on October 4, 1956, George was raised in Newark and later planted his roots in Elizabeth. George worked as a mail handler at the Dominick V. Daniels Processing and Distribution Center in Kearny until his retirement.
In October of 1981, George married the love of his life, Rosanne (Buteau). Together they raised three children, Jennifer-Lauren, Joseph, and Jason. George was a devoted husband and father, he will be remembered for his presence and volunteerism at his children's sporting events and recitals, afternoons in the family pool, and unforgettable family vacations at the Jersey Shore. Despite working the night shift for many years, no matter how tired he may have been, George never missed a school function or opportunity to spend time with his family. He was always a phone call away...no one was more reliable or dependable.
In addition to his unwavering love of his family, George also had a love of sports, especially his beloved Dallas Cowboys and New York Mets. He knew all the statistics as if he were a human almanac and shared his love of sports with his children. George was also an athlete himself. An avid bowler, George was an unstoppable force on the lanes. As a proud left-hander, George’s career highlights include countless championships and, his greatest feat, a perfect game.
George was a huge fan of music. Over the course of his life, he went to countless concerts and saw some of the greatest names in classic rock history (sometimes he saw them more than once). He knew the genre inside and out and could recall every show he saw and tell you all about the performance. His love of music is one of the many wonderful traits that he passed down to his children. Even later in his disease, when communication was a challenge, he could still recite the lyrics to a song without hesitation.
Known for his quick wit and hilarious sense of humor, George could leave a room in stitches. A larger than life personality only added to his charm. Effortlessly, he could make any normal day feel fun and extraordinary...even if it was just to go for a drive down the shore or to go out for ice cream.
George was predeceased by his parents, George H. Haines Sr., and Catherine Haines (Haughney), as well as his sister, Diane Mead (Haines). He is survived by his wife Rosanne; his children, Jennifer-Lauren (Sean), Joseph (Taylor), and Jason; his goddaughter, Olivia; his grandsons, Logan and Nolan; his fur-grandsons, Rudy and Myles; along with his brother and sisters-in-law, and dozens of nieces and nephews.
George will be remembered for the loving, generous, selfless, kind, and hilarious man that he was. He was a blessing to all who knew him and his legacy will live on in our hearts forever.
In lieu of flowers, the Haines family kindly requests donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation in George's honor.
Visitation for George will be held Monday, March 18, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Krowicki McCracken Funeral Home, 2124 East Saint George Ave, Linden, NJ 07036.
