Born on March 7, 1946, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Gladys was the fifth of eight children of Julia Andre Parinis and Camille Joseph Parinis. She spent her childhood in Haiti, where she attended Institution du Sacré-Cœur de Turgeau (Sacred Heart Catholic School). After graduating, she taught at Sacred Heart Catholic School as a kindergarten teacher and provided after-school tutoring to elementary students. She continued her studies at Faculté Craan d’Haïti (formerly École de Commerce Julien Craan), where she graduated at the top of her class, earning dual university degrees—one in Accounting and Finance and another in Stenography.
In 1967, Gladys immigrated to the United States, where she pursued a distinguished career in healthcare. She studied at Lyons Educational Center in Newark, New Jersey, where she earned her certification as a Medical Assistant, Telemetry Technician in 1973, specializing in cardiology and internal medicine. Throughout her career at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (formerly St. Barnabas Medical Center), Gladys was exceptional in her medical practice, proudly serving her patients with compassion, dignity, and unwavering dedication. She was deeply admired and beloved by those entrusted to her care.
While in the United States, she met her husband, Auguste Marc Richard. On March 9, 1981, they were married and began their life together. Gladys and Auguste raised two children, Patrick Richard and Yamine Stephanie Richard, as well as three step-children, Naarl Joseph Richard, Emmanuel Jean Richard, and Janel Pierre Richard.

She was a woman of remarkable strength and resilience, whose determination knew no bounds. She met life with courage, ambition, and an unyielding will, always finding a way forward. Her legacy of perseverance and grace will endure for generations.
