With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of Irene McCormack (née Mazur) on July 5, 2026, at the age of 79. She left us surrounded by her loved ones. Irene was a devoted mother and grandmother whose family was truly her greatest pride and joy.
Born on October 23, 1946, Irene grew up in Elizabeth, New Jersey, with her late parents, Henry and Mary Mazur, and her late sister Mary Decker (née Mazur). Irene later raised her three sons in Linden, New Jersey, spending her life building a legacy of love, hard work, and devotion to her family.
Irene was known above all for being fearless, a trait she beautifully demonstrated when she took her first solo trip to Israel, followed by adventures in Morocco, Dubai, and Poland. At home, she had a passion for playing Mahjong and Rummikub, and she always knew the best books to enjoy on the beach. She loved spending time with her friends at The Sands casino and catching up over lunches at the Spanish Tavern – which always included a glass (or two) of red wine.
Of all her roles, her favorite titles were Mom and Grandma. She never missed a school or sporting event, always had the absolute best one-liners, and made a legendary macaroni salad that no one could match.
Irene is survived by her children, William McCormack (Beata), Michael McCormack (Laureena), and Thomas McCormack (Jennifer); her cherished grandchildren, Joanna, Patrick, Emilia, Juliana and Michael McCormack; her nephew, Howard Decker (Leanna); her niece, Edythe Decker; and her great-niece and great nephew, Isabella and Nicholas Decker.
She will be deeply missed at Sunday dinner.
Services will be announced at a later date.
