Born on March 21, 1940, in Elizabeth, Jim was the son of James and Marie Feehan. He attended St. Mary’s Grammar School and graduated from Jefferson High School. After graduation, Jim worked as a machinist at the Journal newspaper alongside his father before advancing his draft orders and enlisting in the United States Army. He proudly served in Korea for two years as a chaplain’s assistant and sharpshooter. Although he was on call for deployment to Laos, he was never deployed there.
Following his honorable discharge, Jim returned to the Journal while attending Saint Peter's University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Accounting and an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He later earned a master’s degree in Education from Saint Peter’s University.
Jim worked as a tax accountant for more than 40 years before beginning a second full-time career in 1994 as a Computer Science and Business teacher for the Elizabeth Board of Education. He later retired as House Director of Elizabeth High School. Never one to stay idle, Jim went on to serve as principal of Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy.
Known as the life of the party and a stranger to no one, Jim loved sharing stories, telling his favorite jokes — often laughing hardest at them himself — and spending time with those he loved. He especially enjoyed boating at the Jersey Shore, hunting, and gathering with family and friends. Jim was a proud member of the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, and the Elizabeth Gun Club.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Roberta Feehan; his children, James J. Feehan Jr. and his wife, Shari, and Christina G. Fohner and her husband, Dennis; his cherished grandchildren, Renee and Tara Fohner; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
A full life, well-lived, Jim emulated the Feehan Coat of Arms’ motto: Deo Patriaeque fidelis. Faithful to God and country.
