She will be remembered for the love that she had for her family, her fierce determination to accomplish everything she set her mind to, and for successfully emigrating from Poland on the way to building a much better future for her family for generations to come.
Janina grew up in Poland during World War II, where she encountered significant hardship. She then lived a primarily agricultural life as a farmer, before getting married to her husband Ludwig. They went on to have four children together – Mary Purwin (Jerry), Elizabeth Kuban (Joe), Barbara Szaro and Mark Ziobro (Michele) – before embarking onto a better life in the United States.
Janina courageously went to explore the U.S. in 1964, and after giving the seal of approval, shortly after brought over the rest of the family. Janina spent her whole life in the U.S. in Elizabeth, NJ, and attended St. Hedwig’s RC Church. She worked hard in multiple factories such as for the Singer Sewing Company. Janina was married to her husband for over 50 years, before his passing in 2011. She had a regular routine of taking her children to Warinaco Park, Sandy Hook beach, and Catholic mass.
Janina was a loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren: Jennifer, Steven, Natasha, Stephanie, Robert, Michelle K., Peter, Jason, Michael, Mark, and Michele Z., and 10 great grandchildren: Lexie, Justin, Tyler, Grace, Elliana, Julia, Emma, Viviana, David, and Mason.
When Janina wasn’t busy working and spending time with her family, she loved watching game shows, especially Let’s Make A Deal and Family Feud. Janina also loved the casino and bingo, where she loved to test her luck. She will be missed for her wonderful cooking, especially her gourmet mushroom soup. Janina loved playing cards with her family. And she was also a huge Yankee fan, going to multiple games in her lifetime, and watching games late into the night.
Babcia touched countless lives along the way, and she will be dearly missed by all who got to know her.
In lieu of flowers donations in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital would be appreciated.
