January 27, 1931 – October 26, 2025
JORGE ENRIQUE SANCHEZ, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Sunday, surrounded by his four children at his home in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He was 94.
Born in Florida, Colombia, to Rosa Sanchez and raised by his grandparents, Ricardo Sanchez and Uvaldina Perez Sanchez, Enrique embodied the American dream. He built a long and dedicated career as a pressman, operating and maintaining printing presses that produced packaging materials. It was through this work that he met his wife, Maria Ruby Sanchez. The two married on October 21, 1956, and after three children, Enrique moved to Puerto Rico in 1962 to pursue a job opportunity. Following the birth of their fourth and final child, Enrique brought his family of six to the United States, again in search of a better life.
A family man who loved being around people, Enrique took great pride in playing an active role in his children’s lives. He delighted in gathering friends and family for parties, listening to bolero music, calling relatives regularly in Colombia and cultivating a loyal and loving family unit. He was a devoted fan of the Colombian football team, América de Cali, and the New York Mets, arriving in the States just in time to see the Mets win the 1969 World Series. Enrique maintained an active love of fishing that lasted well into his late years. He will be remembered for his tremendous work ethic, ingenuity, warmth, and good humor.
Enrique was predeceased by his wife, Maria Ruby Sanchez; his mother, Rosa Carmen Sanchez; and his siblings, Georgina, Hernando, and Ernilson. He is survived by his children, Lucero, Rocio, Nasly, and Carlos; their spouses, Jorge, Jose, and Luz; his grandchildren, Laura, Christina, Marylou, Daniel, Lucero, Veronica, and Claudia; and his great-grandchildren, Angelina, Beckett, Natalie, Lucas, Abigail, Lincoln, Sofia, Sebastian, Giovanni, and Ella. He is also survived by his sister, Alicia, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
