Lois Ann LiCata, lovingly known as “Mama,” of Linden, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 22, at the age of 88.
Lois was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, where she lived until moving to Linden in the 1970s. There, she and her beloved husband, Al, created a beautiful home that became the heart of their family for more than fifty years—a place where children, grandchildren, and loved ones always felt welcome.
Lois enjoyed cooking, baking and bowling, but her interests didn’t stop there. She loved music and shopping and was known for always showing up in style.
Above all else, Lois cherished her family. She built her life around her daughters and grandchildren and took immense pride in each of them. She was the true definition of a homemaker—loving, devoted, and endlessly giving. Her home was always open, her table always full, and her hugs always waiting. She had a rare gift for making everyone feel special and knew exactly how to host a memorable gathering.
Lois was a devoted wife to her husband, Alphonse “Al” LiCata, whom she never let anyone forget was the love of her life. Together, they built a legacy rooted in love, comfort, and family. To all who knew her, Mama and her home represented warmth, laughter, and unconditional love.
Lois was predeceased by her beloved husband, Alphonse “Al” LiCata; her father, Louis Tarracino; and her mother, Pama Tarracino.
She is survived by her sister, Joan Bene, and her husband, Anthony ; her daughters, Lenore Matzkanich and her husband Daniel, Donna Costa and her husband Leonard, and Lisa LiCata and her partner Eugene; her grandchildren, Samantha (and husband Travis), Michael, Justin (and wife Diana), Danielle (and partner Joe), Jessica, and Alexander; and her great-grandchildren, Walter Fox and Liliana Lois. She is also survived by her niece, Lori, and her wife Wendy; her nephew, Anthony, and his wife Kelly; and her great-nephew, Anthony, and great-niece, Sophia.
Visitation and services will be held at Krowicki McCracken Funeral Home in Linden, New Jersey, on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Services will be followed by a dinner and celebration of life at Amici’s Ristorante in Linden, New Jersey.
