Marie E Daux

Marie Emilia Daux was born on July 17, 1923 in Grande-Saline, L’Artibonite, Haiti to Lafortune Gilot and Altagrace Dastinot. She was married to her late husband Andre Daux until he passed away in 2002. She was a dedicated, loving, and hard-working mother. She worked in the salt mines and as a seamstress until immigrating to New Jersey in 1980. After arriving in the US, Granny as she was affectionately known, took up the role as the families’ primary caregiver for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a God fearing woman, an active member of her church, and was always reading her bible. She had a flair for fashion and loved getting manicures. She was the no nonsense grandma that would “discipline” you and comfort you afterwards with food. She was brutally honest and the family comedian. She always had a story to tell about her life in Haiti while working in the salt mines. She loved making porridge, cornmeal dishes, caramel candies and coconut clusters. She was especially known as the “unofficial” neighborhood watch, often seen intently staring out the window.

She is survived by her brother, Emilson Dastinot, her children Simon Daux, Renaud Daux, Marie Georgette Daux, Joseph Rodrigue Daux, Gilbert Daux, Mimerose Daux, Melonde Dastinot, and Maryse Victor, 40 grandchildren, a multitude of great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and loved ones.

She was predeceased by her parents, Lafortune Gilot and Altagrace Dastinot, her husband Andre Daux, and her children Mirlande Daux, Anne Vierge Phillipe, and Emeline Fils-Aime, her grandson Gerald Daux, and great-grandson Jordan Cherestal.

A visitation for Marie will be held Friday, April 1, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Krowicki McCracken Funeral Home, 2124 East Saint George Ave, Linden, NJ 07036. A second visitation will be held Saturday, April 2, 2022 from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM at Jesus Christ Baptist Church, 1127 Rivington St, Roselle, NJ 07203. A prayer services will follow from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Jesus Christ Baptist Church, 1127 Rivington St, Roselle, NJ 07203. A funeral will be at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Inman Ave, Colonia, NJ 07065.
