Morris Albert Hill, aka “Packa”, or “Benjy”, was born on Monday, September 25, 1939 to Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Hill in Inverness, St. Ann, Jamaica. He was the fourth of eight children for his mother, and the first for his father. He attended the Eccleston All-Age School and worked on his parents’ farm in the evenings and weekends during the formative years. At 33, he got married to the apple of his eyes, Nedursha Rose Hill, and they raised eight children together. As a man who internalizes family values, he often attributed his lifelong happiness to his wife of 51 years and his children.
As a proud son of Jamaica, he created a vision of a community filled with opportunities as a construction entrepreneur. His passion for the construction sector began as a laborer, progressed as a self-taught mason, and then a contractor. His first major project was the 3-story building that is today known as Charlton Primary School. In 1997, he formed Morris Hill Limited, LLC that includes: Echo Stone Disco, Corner Stone Bar and Disco, Morris Hill Superior Gas, Morris Hill Construction, Morris Hill Feed & Farm Store, Morris Hill Plaza, Morris Hill Bar, Morris Hill Farms, Charlton Hardware, and Morris Hill Asphalt and Concrete. The independently-owned conglomerate has grown over the years, currently employs over 300 employees, and is the single largest such cooperation in the constituency.
Mr. Hill also believed in charity. Each year, he pledged a percentage of his profits to the building and uplifting of his community and country. These donations included, yearly contribution to schools, churches, youth clubs, non-profit organizations, back to school grants provided to students, financial assistance given to offset funeral expenses, among other charities. He lived by the motto, “teach a man how to fish instead of giving him a fish. Then, and only then will he learn to fish for himself which is the climbing stone to independence”. Mr. Hill credited his success to God, his wife and family. He lived with humility, philanthropy, faith, and love of country until he died.
He departed this earth peacefully on Sunday, September 15, 2024 in New York City (with his son Donald by his bedside). Although he died in the United States, he died a proud Jamaican son of the soil who dedicated his life to enhancing his beloved country, Jamaica. He is survived by wife, Mrs. Nedursha Rose Hill, stepson - Lloyd Campbell, children: Joan Hill-Supersad, Donald Hill, Delroy Hill, Kelvin Steve Hill, Andrea Hill, Sean Hill, Dalvin Hill, Vivian Hill, Viviene Hill, Anthony Hill, Garfield Hill, grandchildren, great grandchildren, four sisters, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Rest In Peace Daddy.
