Nelsy Santana was born on February 16th, 1960, in La Verga, Dominican Republic. Nelsy died on April 17th, 2023 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Nelsy came to the United States in 1985, bringing her three children, Julissa, Odalis and Yahira Rosario. Nelsy learned to become a hard working woman, supporting all three children. Nelsy successfully raised all three children, all by herself. She worked 3 different jobs to in order to provide food and make sure that all children had their own rooms. Though Nelsy had heart problems, that originated at a young age, she found a way to bless the lives of all the people in her life. She always showed happiness along with joy and appreciation to the world. Nelsy refused to allow her medical condition to prevent her from feeling true joy. However, Nelsy’s medical conditions did give her multiple obstacles to overcome, including 3 open heart surgeries. With the help of her family, along with her faith in God, she survived all surgeries and continued to live a full life of joy and happiness.
Nelsy passed her strong faith of God, into her children, which led to many blessings to all members of her family. In 2011, Nelsy received an open-heart surgery. During the surgery, Nelsy was able to make contact with God. She was able to see the light and feel the warm embrace of God and felt the specialness of his touch. During this interaction, God decided it was not Nelsy’s time to pass. When she regained consciousness, she knew she wanted to feel God’s embrace again. Because of this, she converted to Christianity. With the help of her daughter in law, Yenny Rosario, she was able to find the “Iglesia Pentecostal Unida Latinoamericana” Church (IPUL). There she found a community full of love and passion. She served in the IPUL church for over 20 years, giving so much to the church community and those who needed assistance.
Nelsy was able to witness many important, joyful moments involving her family. She witness her son, Odalis, marry Yenny. She was also able to witness her oldest daughter, Julissa marry her husband, Angel in 2017. However, with a long life, comes moments of sadness. Nelsy’s oldest daughter, died in April of 2020. Nelsy was able to support her family and help them deal with the loss of an important person. Nelsy reminded all members of the family, that Julissa felt the embrace of God, that she once remembered feeling. A few months later, Nelsy’s sister, Yolonda, lost her daughter as well. During this period, the two sisters helped each other, gather the strength to continue to live and experience happiness.
During the year of 2023, Nelsy’s medical condition worsened. She became sicker and her liver and heart began to give out. Though Nelsy was sick, she continued to smile and love. She never stop spreading joy and was able to spend another birthday with her first grandson, Victor. She was able to witness the return of her son, Odalis and observed her family become stronger. Nelsy was a woman of many blessings and joy. Her personality is incomparable and her faith in God strong, like the unity of her family. During Nelsy’s final day, she was surrounded by all her loved ones, her children, sister, grandchildren, family of the church, very special friend Gary along with many friends. As she continued to fight, until she could no longer fight, her family surrounded her with love and thanked her for all the blessings that she provided to them. Let Nelsy’s life be a lesson to all people. If you are a truly good person and have a strong faith in God, you will be surrounded by many people who will love and support you, until the day that you feel that warm embrace of God, that Nelsy felt in 2011 and is currently feeling now.
