Norman George Smith III

Born in Rahway, New Jersey, on February 21, 1971, Norman’s early childhood included time spent in Colorado and Arizona before returning to New Jersey. He spent most of his formative years in Elizabeth, where he met and married his beloved wife, Sarah. The couple later moved to Linden, where they built a beautiful life and raised their four children.

For over 35 years, Norman partnered with his father, Smitty, to run their family painting business. Known throughout the community as The Paintsmith, Norman was respected for his dedicated work ethic and his signature touch on local homes and businesses.

Norman lived to put a smile on people’s faces. He was truly the life of the party, known for his love of music, dancing, and cooking. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—whether it was vacationing down the shore, picking up a daily newspaper, or making a spontaneous phone call just to catch up. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Norman played basketball in high school for the North Jersey Christian Academy. Later in life, his sports fandom centered on cheering for the New York Yankees and watching every Miami Dolphins game alongside his sons and his nephew, Amir. He absolutely adored his only daughter, Chloe Isabella, who was the absolute center of his world. He cherished every single moment they spent together, never missing a chance to twirl her around at father- daughter dances, make her breakfast, or simply share an evening walk by her side.

Norman is survived by his loving wife, Sarah; his children Christian, Norman IV, Ethan, and Chloe; his parents Norman G Smith II and Barbara Suchovic; his siblings Heather Smith and Angelic Pekarofski. He leaves behind a proud legacy through his four children, as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews, Kiana Smith, Amir Smith, Isaiah Smith, Zion Vyent, and Lilliana Rose Vyent. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Norman and Mary Smith, George and Mildred Suchovic, and his sister Holly.

A public service to celebrate Norman’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Calvary Tabernacle, located at 69 Myrtle St, Cranford, NJ.

Viewing: 6:00 PM

Memorial Service: 7:00 PM, led by Pastor Clem Salerno.

Following the service, family and friends are warmly invited to join a repast of coffee and dessert in the café located inside the church.
