Rebeca Marino, beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2024. Born on July 3, 1957, in Guantanamo, Cuba, Rebeca loved her children and her grandchildren with a fervor that is unmatched. Her love and kindness touched the lives of everyone she knew.
Rebeca was a mother with boundless devotion for her children, Angel Marino and Rebeca Marino, and she loved them with a strength that can never be matched. Her life was an instruction in how to love selflessly, thinking of others first.
Above all, she loved her grandchildren more than anything in the world. Affectionately known as “Abba,” a name given by her first grandchild, Evan Morales, she was a constant source of joy, light, and brightness for Evan, as well as Ella Morales, August Marino, Zelda Marino, and Guinevere Marino. She had an amazing ability to connect with children, and make each child feel they were deeply loved and special. She championed each of her children and grandchildren, providing them with support in the form of cookies and prayers, or a gentle and supportive patience.
She worked with children for decades, in the Elizabeth Public School System, most prominently at Egenolf Early Childhood Center, where she touched the lives of countless children with the same light and patience she shone on her family.
She is survived by her siblings, Juana Martinez, Deborah Martinez, and Andres Martinez, with whom she shared the bond of childhood and growing up. She never forgot them, even when she left Cuba for Spain, and then the United States in 1979.
Rebeca journeyed from her birthplace in Guantanamo, Cuba, to Elizabeth, New Jersey, where she set down roots with her husband Angel Marino Sr., and provided a warm home for her children. Her first and favorite job was “mom,” and she always excelled at it.
Her passing has torn a hole in all that loved her. No one can ever love us in this way again. Her love was one in a million. Our hearts are broken. We will miss her every minute of every day, and we pray we will see her again one day. Her legacy will live on in her children and loved ones, who will use her life of boundless love as an example to live by.
In loving memory of Rebeca Marino, a remarkable woman whose light will continue to shine in the hearts of her family and friends. Rest in peace, dear Abba.
