Vincent P. Orsi

Vincent was born to Lawrence J.(Bud) Orsi and Rose M. (Nee Pennachio). He was raised in the Peterstown section of Elizabeth, N.J., known as “The Burg.”

Vinnie also known as “possum” by his childhood friends, graduated from Edison Tech High School in Elizabeth. In 1981 he was employed as a carpenter with Union County until 1986 where he was promoted to a general supervisor. A position he held until 1994 when he pursued other opportunities.

Vinnie was an avid outdoorsman; he loved hunting, fishing, cycling and kayaking. Vinnie moved to Rahway where he developed a close bond with his landlord Ralph Ortiz. While in Rahway his backyard became his little piece of paradise. With an abundance of wild life and a stream it’s where he found peace to write. Vinnie was blessed with a gift for writing, it was his true passion. Whether he was writing about a commemorative biography, a memorable day or productive conversation he expressed himself through handwritten letters. If you were lucky enough to receive one of his many handwritten stories, poems or a thank you, cherish it.

Vinnie would often take the train or ride his bicycle-weather permitting, to Sacco’s Meat Market in Elizabeth, where he was guaranteed to see great friends, share memories, lots of laughs and always leave in a food coma with half a sandwich for later. Vinnie had a heart of gold and although his time here wasn’t long enough, he certainly made up for it by loving and living his life to the fullest.

Vincent was predeceased by his beloved parents Lawrence and mg Rose Orsi, Brothers Larry “McGirsh” and Michael Orsi. He is survived by his devoted sister Angela Niewinski and her husband Michael. Brother Jude Orsi and his wife Doreen. Aunt Jean Orsi. Nieces Hillary Martin and Christina Orsi. Nephews Michael V., Zachary, Lorenzo, and Michael M. Niewinski. Four great nieces and nephews.

Vinnie’s family would like to thank everyone for understanding their need to respect Vinnie’s wishes for private services. He loved you all very much. As we all know Vinnie wore his Army fatigues and boots to proudly express his love and support for the United States and our Military. In honor of Vinnie we ask that in lieu of flowers to make a donation in his memory to The Wounded Warrior Project or consider handwriting a message of gratitude or appreciation acknowledging a loved one.
