1934 - 2021
Brunswick - Charles R. Card, age 86, of Lisbon Falls, died Tuesday morning July 27th at Mid Coast Hospital. He was born in Lisbon Falls on August 28, 1934, a son of Joseph B. and Violet (Brunt) Card and was educated in local schools. On December 6, 1958 he married the former Elsie Thayer who predeceased him on March 22, 2008. Mr. Card was a retired military veteran having served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He served 21 years in the service until his retirement from Pease Air Force Base as Chief Master Sergeant in 1973. During his time in the military, he worked as an aircraft mechanic, served two tours in Vietnam and received the Bronze Star medal. Upon his honorable discharge from the service, Charles spent the remainder of his working years at several automotive tire service centers until his retirement from Lee Tire in Topsham.
Charles had a very outgoing personality and enjoyed socializing with everyone. Among his favorite enjoyments were bowling and playing horseshoes. For many years, he bowled in leagues at the former Holiday Lanes in Lewiston and competed in horseshoes at the Slovak Club in Lisbon, where he was a member. He was an avid gardner and also enjoyed puttering around the house, tinkering with different projects, and always keeping himself busy.
Charles was a member of the Lisbon Left-Hand Club, the New Gloucester Eagles Club, Durham Amvets, American Legion Post 158 in Lisbon and the VFW. He was a loving, devoted and hardworking husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed. He leaves behind his daughter Brenda Card-Burmeister and husband Paul of Hartford, Maine; two grandchildren Keenan Stockdale and wife Jessica of Virginia Beach, VA and Jacoby Burmeister of Hartford, Maine; two sisters Gloria Holland of Auburn and Gwen Fineberg of Chestnut Hill, MA; one brother Bob Lamb and wife Virginia of So. Portland,
his sister-in-law Margaret Card of Nashua, NH and many nieces and nephews.
Charles was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Elsie, a brother Fredrick Lamb and his parents.
