Cynthia "Cindy" Bowie Hunnewell, a thoughtful, kind-hearted, and selfless woman, passed away on February 4, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on May 25, 1939, in Durham, Maine, Cynthia was the beloved daughter of Kenneth and Verna (Crockett) Bowie. She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1957.
Cynthia dedicated over 30 years of her life working as a telephone operator on the switchboards for the telephone company before retiring. Upon retirement, she embraced a "second" career on the family farm, where she continued to work tirelessly. Any farmer knows you don't retire from that career.
In 1958, Cynthia married Franklin Hunnewell, a handsome man whom she met while hanging May baskets. They shared a wonderful life together, married for nearly 50 years until Franklin's passing in 2008.
Cynthia loved the outdoors and had a passion for chasing beautiful things, whether it was scenic views, fluttering birds at her feeder, or colorful flowers in the garden or bouquets. She cherished her friends and family, enjoying time spent with them, whether chatting on the phone, dressing up to go out with "the girls," or having a nice meal at a restaurant or backyard BBQ. Always very helpful and thinking of others, she truly valued these connections.
She is survived by her daughter Darlene Hunnewell and Brian Sabine of Durham; son Curt Hunnewell and fiancée Alana Ketchel of Morrison, CO; her brother Calvin Bowie of Auburn; sister-in-law Beatrice Libby of New Gloucester; and brother-in-law Everett "Eddie" Clour of Salem, NJ. She is also survived by her grandchildren Charles Hunnewell, Douglas Hunnewell and fiancée Sabrina Morse, Aida Hunnewell and Paxton Hunnewell as well as her great-grandchildren Patrick and Edward Hunnewell, and their mother Sandy Tatro. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with her beloved Old English sheepdog puppy, Teddy.
She is pre-deceased by her husband Franklin, her eldest son Patrick, Patrick's wife April Rock Hunnewell, their daughter Sarah Rose Hunnewell, sister Alberta "Debbie" Bowie Clour and many sister- and brother-in-laws.
Graveside services for close family will be held in the spring at Sawyer Cemetery in Durham followed by a reception for family and friends to celebrate the life she lived.
