David was born in Royal Oak, Michigan, to Norman Albert (Al) Provot and Helen Olex Provot. He was the youngest of seven Provot siblings. When he was a teenager, his mother remarried Ken Glass, and his family grew to include the Glasses.
David joined the US Navy right after high school and served until 1983 when he retired from the Naval Air Station Brunswick. He served as a baker and cook on several ships and stations. David received many awards during his Navy career, including several bronze medals. After retiring from the Navy, he joined the team at St. Mary's d'Youville Pavilion in Lewiston, Maine, where he continued sharing his culinary talents.
In the 1980s, David moved to Lisbon Falls, Maine, where he increased his chosen family to include his wonderful neighbors and friends throughout the town. His favorite hang out was Mike's Diner on Main Street in Lisbon Falls.
During this time, David was the long-term caregiver of his mother, Helen. They were both friendly, generous, and talented cooks who were well-loved in the community. In 2015, they moved to Sunnybrook in Brunswick, Maine, where their family again grew to include Sunnybrook's staff and residents.
David was well known and will be remembered for his caring nature, generosity, and wry sense of humor. He loved making people smile. He was also known for his Provot trait of stubbornness, which runs through the family.
David was predeceased by his parents, Helen and Al, and stepfather, Ken, and siblings Leota Morse, Kathleen Madison, Alvin Provot, and Allen Provot. He is survived by his siblings Vivian Miller and Albert Provot and his step-brother Richard Glass. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. He will be great-great-greatly missed by all of us.
David requested that there be no funeral service, but a sharing of memories and celebration of life will be arranged later. Contributions in his name may be made to Midcoast Humane at 190 Pleasant Street, Brunswick, Maine 04011, or call (207) 449-1366 x109.
