Dorothy "Dot" Fitzgerald

Dorothy B. Fitzgerald, 95, of 6 School Street in Lisbon Falls died on Monday, August 24th at her home. She was born in Pejepscot, Maine on January 12,1931, the middle daughter of Joseph A. and Anna (Gaydos) Pagurko. She attended Pejepscot Grammar School and graduated from Lisbon High School where she met her husband, Peter Fitzgerald. They were married at St. Andrew’s Church in Pejepscot on July 4, 1952 and lived in Brunswick until moving to Lisbon Falls.

Dot was a homemaker when her 5 children were young. The family lived in a neighborhood full of children and there was always an extra plate set at the table for a friend. The house was always full at holidays, especially Christmas Eve and Christmas, with lots of Slovak dishes being served.

When her children got older Dot went to work at Dutton’s Department store in Lisbon Falls and then at Senter’s in Brunswick. After many years of working retail Dot decided to enter the real estate field and got her real estate license. She worked for Lord Real Estate and later founded Village Real Estate.

Dot was one of the first female Rotarians in the State of Maine. She was a Paul Harris Fellow. She was also very involved in the first Moxie Festivals, helping with the planning and running games.

Her fondest memories were her years in Harpswell. Her parents were wonderful hosts for the entire clan at their camps, the first where Mitchell Field is now and later in Stover’s Cove. Fishing, clam digging, boating, swimming and late night card games kept everyone active. Lobsters and fresh catch, especially mackerel, on the outdoor fireplace were everyone’s favorite.

She leaves behind quite a legacy: her two daughters, Mary Fitzgerald Marsh (Richard) of Scarborough, Nancy Fitzgerald Ridley (Karl) of Lisbon; three sons, Peter Fitzgerald of Litchfield, Robert Fitzgerald (Pamela) of Lisbon Falls, Kevin Fitzgerald ( Angela) of Lisbon Falls; 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She will live on in all of them. She is also survived by her sister Irene Ferrence of Lisbon Falls and many nieces and nephews.

Dot was predeceased by her father, Joseph Pagurko; mother Anna Gaydos Pagurko; husband Peter A. Fitzgerald Jr.; Grandson, Joshua Fitzgerald; sister Ethel Marquis of Lewiston and brother Francis Pagurko of Englewood, FL.

The family is planning a private service at a later date.
