She was born in Portland, Maine on August 13, 1926 the daughter of the late Loring and Lucy (Coolen) Towle. She was educated in Portland schools, a city girl she would say, but spent many a summer in Topsham at the home of her aunt. She married the love of her life John Lewis on July 5, 1947. They began their life together in Brunswick, but lived in Topsham, Waterville and Florida for a number of years before returning to Topsham in 1993. Over the years Edna worked at Pejepscot Paper Co., did clerical work at Senter’s department store, Lee’s Tire, Sears and was a hostess at the former Holiday Inn as well as caring for friend’s children and raising her own family. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was an avid reader, often times reading several books in a week. She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, watching dancing with the stars, clothes, jewelry, shopping, eating out and attending church. She was a member of the Great Island Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by her husband John of 68 years, her daughter Cheryl Dunning and husband Jack of Harpswell, her son Mark Lewis and wife Christine of Daphne, Alabama, grandchildren; Tasia Lewis of Waterville, Leisha Lewis, Allison Wiest and her husband Jason of Lisbon Falls and Chad Vaillancourt of Harpswell. She is also survived by three great grandchildren; Julia Bowen and Nolan Wiest of Lisbon Falls and Olivia Vaillancourt of Harpswell. She leaves behind her beloved cat, Jeremiah. She is predeceased by her son Gary Lewis.
