

LISBON FALLS: Elwyn E. Hutchins, 75, of Lisbon Falls, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Kingfield, ME on September 19, 1938 a son of the late Elwin and Helen (Crocker) Hutchins. He grew up in the area and attended local schools there. He was a graduate of Central High School in New Portland, class of 1957. He also received his Associate’s Degree in Automotive at Southern Maine Vocational College where he graduated in 1959. On August 26, 1961 he married Elizabeth Williams at Holy Family Church in Lisbon Falls. Shortly after they were married, Elwyn was drafted and entered the United States Army in December of 1961. He proudly served his country until his discharge in 1963. Elwyn worked for over 35 years at Bath Iron Works until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Slovak Catholic Association in Lisbon Falls, and the American Legion in Lisbon Falls. He was also a member of the Lisbon Fire Department for 17 years and the Pejepscot Sno-Chiefs. He loved fishing, hunting and camping. He was always known for doing more for others than he did for himself. He was very helpful, handy and good at fixing small machines such as lawn mowers for friends and neighbors. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Hutchins of Lisbon Falls, his two children, Eric Hutchins and his wife Madeleine of Lisbon Falls and Elise Chard and her husband Thomas of Old Orchard Beach. He also leaves behind a sister Allison Franklin of Carrollton, TX as well as four grandchildren; Benjamin and Amanda Hutchins and Elissa and Emilie Chard. He was predeceased by his brother Ronald. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday February 27, 2014 at 11am at Holy Trinity Church in Lisbon.
