Lisbon Falls - Joan L. Jean, age 85, of Lisbon Falls, died late Friday evening January 23rd at her home with her family at her side. She was born in Cumberland Center on August 18, 1929, one of four children born to Ernest and Gladys (Peterson) Lindell. Joan was educated in Cumberland schools, graduated from Lisbon High School in 1949 and remained a lifelong resident of this community. On November 3, 1951 she married Maurice A. Jean at the Holy Family Church in Lisbon Falls and together they settled in the same community to raise their three children. Joan worked for 30 years operating a daycare out of her home. She cared for many children over the course of those years, and eventually cared for some of the next generation when they had children of their own. As part of her 80th birthday party, the two generations were invited to celebrate with Joan, her family, and other close friends. Joan was a member of the Lisbon Falls Catholic Community, initially Holy Family Church, and later at Holy Trinity Parish. Some of her favorite enjoyments were spending quality time with her children, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. She also liked to sew, knit, garden, and take some much needed time off to spend in South Harpswell at her cottage. She leaves two daughters, Gladys Dewick and husband Stephen of Woolwich, Laurie Grimmel and husband Larry of Plant City, Florida, a son Andy Jean Jr. and wife Faye, of North Monmouth, as well as 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Joan was predeceased by her husband Maurice, a sister Dorothy Benett, and two brothers Charles and Howard Lindell and her parents. Joan, also known as "Ma" to most, was a loving, devoted, hardworking lady who will be dearly missed by all.
