Joan M. Wertman

Sabattus- Joan M. Wertman, 85, passed away at her home on Tuesday, April 11, 2023. She was born on October 18, 1937 in Fall River, MA to Thomas and Rose (Walsh) Powers. She married Harold "Jerry" Wertman on December 28, 1957.

During her years as a Navy wife, she lived in Key West, FL, Eleuthera, Bahamas and moved to Lisbon Falls in 1969, when Jerry was assigned to the Brunswick Naval Air Station. She worked at Sears Roebuck in Brunswick and following the death of her husband in 1995; she retired and moved to Sabattus.

She enjoyed genealogy, reading, gardening, the ocean, and her cats. She was a talented artist and crafter who created cross-stitch, beautiful quilts, paintings and paper artistry. She deeply loved her family and was so proud of her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Chris Wertman, daughter, Karen Wertman and brother, Bob Powers. She is survived by her son, Tom Wertman of Willow Grove, PA, daughters-in-law, Betsy Glencross of Sabattus and Marilyn Wertman of Candor, NY, grandchildren, Katie Glencross of Lisbon Falls, Kelsey (Frank) Barbero of Macedon, NY, Ben Wertman of Rochester, NY and Jake Wertman of Wells, ME, her best friend and sister, Carol (Paul) Dillon of Conway, SC and brother Jerry Powers of Portsmouth, RI as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

She faced many storms in her life but she always persevered. She was kind, loving, sensitive, yet strong, and she had a great smile. She always said, "Just put one foot in front of the other, then put some sunshine in your life."
