LEWISTON---John A. Janosco, 88, of Sabattus passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 20, 2017 at d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston. He was born in Lewiston on October 17, 1929 a son of the late Andrew Sr. and Elizabeth ( Topolosky ) Janosco. He grew up in the Lisbon Falls area and was a graduate of Lisbon High School, class of 1948.
In 1951 John enlisted and proudly served his country in the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Germany and during that time his Army buddy, Carroll Francis set him up on a blind date that would change his life forever.
After leaving the Army in 1953, he pursued the girl from that blind date and eventually married her, Irma Sparks on February 27, 1954 in Lisbon Falls and they started a family together. During that time, John worked as a loom fixer in various textile mills, mostly in Lisbon. Later on he worked in the Tin Shop at BIW in temporary ventilation where he would retire. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and gardening. He also loved to travel with his family on vacations and spend as much quality time with them, including his pets, as often as he could. He took up playing golf in his later years and really enjoyed the game. According to his family, he will always be remembered for his mechanical abilities. John could fix just about anything with his hands. He would build objects from scratch and took great pride in doing his own repairs. He will be deeply missed by many.
He is survived by his loving wife, Irma Janosco of Lewiston, formerly of Sabattus, his son, John Janosco, Jr. and his wife Betty of Lewiston, his daughter, Diane of Lewiston, his grandchildren, Matthew Janosco of Lewiston and his fiancée Shella Monroe of Oxford, and Brian and Kevin Janosco of Big Springs, TX and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Patricia Janosco of Lisbon Falls, a special niece Joline Rider and her husband David of Lisbon Falls along with many other nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his siblings; Anna Bartlett, Mary Janec, Margaret Hall, Elizabeth Williams, Frances Merrill, Andrew, Jr., Michael and Joseph Janosco and a daughter, Darlene, during infancy.

. Visiting hours will be held at Crosman on Tuesday December 26, 2017 from 4-7pm. A Liturgy of the Word service will take place on Wednesday December 27, 2017 at 1pm also at Crosman. Interment will be at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery in Lisbon Falls with military honors in the spring.
