Karen was born on June 7, 1956, at Fort Devens, Massachusetts, to Kenneth E. MacDonald and Patricia E. (Dilbert) MacDonald. She grew up with a deep appreciation for family, kindness, and resilience—values she carried with her throughout her life. Karen graduated from Lisbon High School as part of the Class of 1974, where she formed lifelong friendships and met the love of her life.
In 1976, she married her high school sweetheart, Randy Crafts. Together, they built a beautiful life in Lisbon Falls, where they raised their family and created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love. Their partnership spanned five decades, rooted in devotion, hard work, and shared dreams.
Karen began her professional career as a secretary at the L.L.Bean corporate offices, where she worked until 1982. She then joined her husband as office manager of Crafts Auto Transport, helping to build the business from the ground up with determination and care. Despite the demands of her work, Karen’s greatest passion was always her family. She poured her heart and soul into raising her three daughters, creating a nurturing and loving home that will forever stand as her greatest legacy.
In 2012, Karen found a creative outlet in opening “The White Dresser,” a vintage home furnishings store that reflected her eye for beauty and her love of decorating. Through this venture, she shared her creativity and joy with the community she cherished.
Karen will be remembered as a friend to all—a selfless, compassionate soul who always made time to listen, comfort, and uplift others. Her beautiful smile, thoughtful advice, and fun-loving spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Randy; her daughters, Bridget and her husband Jeff Burkhardt, Katie and her husband Scott Boyd, and Ashley and her husband Darrell Grenier; and her eight cherished grandchildren, Hunter, Elle, and Adeline Burkhardt, Sawyer and Avery Boyd, and Gavin, Emma, and Anniston Grenier.
She is also survived by her sister, Amanda Pendergraft and her husband John; her brothers, Douglas and his wife McKenzie, and Kevin and his wife Heather; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Karen was predeceased by her parents, Kenneth and Patricia MacDonald.
Before her passing, Karen shared these words:
“My time here is done and I will spend my eternity in the glory of heaven. My parents, Kenneth and Patricia MacDonald, were the most loving and caring people I have ever known, and I was so blessed to be their daughter. In 1976 I married my high school sweetheart, Randy. We spent 50 years together raising our family in Lisbon Falls.”
“To my children, I love you more than life itself. You have made my existence worthwhile, and the most important and precious gift I have ever received was to be your mom.”
“To my grandchildren, I leave my whole heart. You have no idea how deeply you are loved and how blessed I am to have been your Grammie.”
She also leaves each of her grandchildren with a piece of her spirit:
Hunter – joy, wisdom, and curiosity
Elle – smiles, some sarcasm, and all of the side-eyes
Addy – fearlessness and cuddles
Gavin – just a little bit of her temper (because he really has enough of his own) and safe driving skills
Emma Karen – her namesake and all the hugs
Annie – her Judge Judy attitude and the ability to count back change
Sawyer – her love of reading and their silly contests
Avery – all of the silliness and big snuggles
Karen’s life was a testament to love, strength, and generosity. She will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and always remembered.
