Lloyd R. Cherry

Lloyd "Bud" R. Cherry, 95, of Topsham, Maine, passed away on July 18, 2026. Born December 23, 1930, Lloyd was raised in Trenton, New Jersey, the son of Lloyd R. Cherry Sr. and Hazel (Brink), and attended school in Hamilton Township.

From an early age, Bud carried himself with a steady sense of purpose and a willingness to meet life head-on. As a Boy Scout who earned the rank of Eagle Scout, he showed the kind of discipline and follow-through that would define him for decades to come. In those younger years, family vacations to Pine Beach, New Jersey became especially meaningful—both for the simple joys of time together and for the moment he met his future wife. He also enjoyed sailing during that time, drawn to the open water and the quiet promise of going somewhere new.

After graduating from high school, Bud joined the United States Navy, serving for 20 years. His long military career reflected a deep commitment to duty and to others, and it set the foundation for a life marked by work done carefully, reliably, and with pride.

Following his service, Bud built a respected career as a master electrician. He worked for Robins Electric, Huston and Frena, and Enterprise Electric before starting his own company, BC Electric. Whether employed by others or working for himself, he was known for showing up, seeing what needed to be done, and doing it—often with a generosity of time and effort that asked for no recognition.

Bud met Margaret “Peg” in the mid-forties, and they were married in August of 1953. Together they built a life shaped by the many places the Navy took them—Texas, Rhode Island, Florida, and Georgia—before retiring in Maine. They shared a devoted partnership and raised five daughters, creating a home grounded in love, faith, and steadfast care for one another.

Wherever Bud and Peg were stationed, Bud became involved in the local church, living his faith through consistent presence and service. His church involvement ultimately included Lisbon United Methodist Church. He also volunteered for many years with Habitat for Humanity, giving his skills and strength in a practical, selfless way that made a lasting difference for others.

Bud found joy in an active and hands-on life. He ran and later took up biking riding the MS Bike Trek for 30 years, and he also had a motorcycle. He enjoyed riding trains and building model trains, and he explored other interests over the years, including stained glass, furniture building, and sports. He was also the proud member of a Barbershop Quartet. His curiosity and adventurous spirit were never loud, but they were constant—showing up in the way he kept learning, building, and trying what intrigued him.

Bud was, above all, a man of service—someone who would go above and beyond for those around him. His legacy is one of faithful devotion, hard work, and a generous heart, offered quietly and consistently to family, neighbors, church communities, and friends.

Bud was predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife, Margaret “Peg”; his daughter, Melissa; and his granddaughter, Sarah.

He leaves behind his children Debbie (Chris) Crosman, Cathy (Jimmy) Strople, Beth Cherry, and Alison (Bob) Schmidt. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation for Bud on Wednesday, July 29th from 4PM to 6PM at Crosman Funeral Home, 40 Main Street Lisbon Falls, Maine 04252. A Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, July 30th at 11AM at the United Methodist Church, 14 School Street Lisbon Falls, Maine 04252. Bud will have a Naval Burial at Sea.
