LISBON: In the early morn of April 4, 2013, Paul R. Black passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife at his side. He was born and educated in Pittsburg, Pa. At the age of 17 he joined the US Coast Guard and proudly served his country for 20 years. On February 18, 1952 he earned the USCG Silver Life-Saving Medal for heroic action, engaged in the rescue of survivors of the tanker SS Fort Mercer off the coast of Cape Cod in the midst of an epic storm. A true family man, Paul cherished his ever-growing family, valuing time spent with children and grandchildren above everything else. He was the proud patriarch of three generations, and is highly regarded by each of his offspring as thoughtful, wise, fun and caring. He famously hosted a multitude of rambunctious family outings, including baseball games, vacations and weekly get togethers; his holiday parties are legendary! Paul’s guidance, understanding and generosity defines this kind man whose family was his greatest achievement - and whose boundless love is his legacy. In addition to his cherished wife Claire, whom he married on February 18,1972, he is survived by their 5 daughters: Debbie and Steve Daggett of Sabattus, Bonny and Kevin Hartnett of Tucson Arizona, Karen Smith of Leeds, Carol and Roger Levesque of Durham and Louann and Marc Bisson of Sabattus. He is also survived by l5 grandchildren and l6 great grandchildren.
