

LEWISTON – Stanley Arthur Doughty, 83 passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. He was born in West Paris, Maine on August 23, 1932 the son of the late Roscoe and Lillian (Day) Doughty. Stanley lived in Lisbon for 33 years and then later moved to Bowdoin for 29 years. He married the love of his life, Sylvia (Whitman) on May 9, 1954, and they shared a loving marriage of 62 years. Sports were a big part of Stanley’s life. He played 3rd base for Colby College and served as the team Captain his senior year. He was very proud to be able to play in the Pine Tree league with his father, and even played semi-pro baseball. While he played on many teams, one of his favorites, was the Robert’s 88ers. Stanley coached several sports at Lisbon High School, where he taught and was the Athletic Director. After his many years of coaching and teaching at Lisbon, the school named the baseball field, “Doughty’s Diamond” in his honor. In 2009, Stanley was inducted into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame. A perfect day in Stanley’s life would be going up to Hunter’s Camp in Greenwood, Maine with all of his, ‘boys’ where they would hunt, tell stories, and he would sing songs. He enjoyed taking a trip up to Spencer Lake with his crew to enjoy a day of fishing. He loved to chop wood, garden, and make maple syrup at the sugar shack with friends and family. Stan is survived by his wife, Sylvia; his children, Richard Doughty of Bowdoin, Ronald and his wife Noreen of Bowdoin, Susan Doughty of Bowdoin, Stanley “Chip” Jr. and his wife Stephanie Doughty of Bowdoin, and Michael Doughty of Bowdoin; his 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother, Richard of South Paris.The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at the Lewiston Kidney Center, and Dr. Desoi for being by his side every step of the way.
